Union Civil Aviation Minister P Ashok Gajapati Raju on
Thursday assured The Toursim Division of looking into the expansion of the New
Delhi-Bhubaneswar-Port Blase Air India (AI) journey to Phuket.
The guarantee came after Minister of State for Tourism Ashok
Panda and Assistant Arvind Padhee met the Partnership Municipal Aircraft
Reverend here and presented a list of requirements regarding aviation needs of
the tourism industry.
Majority of the Buddhist guests coming to India are part of
Thailand, Chinese suppliers and Asia. With Phuket being 20 minutes of traveling
time from Port Blair, the Tourism Division has been looking for expansion of
the Air India flights to Phuket to attract more Buddhist guests to the Golden
Triangle (Lalitgiri, Udaygiri and Ratnagiri) of Odisha.
“We also recommended the Civil Aviation Ministry to look into
the expansion of New Delhi-Varanasi AI journey to Bhubaneswar which delivers a
lot of Buddhist guests. We were confident of a positive reaction for both the
Air India journey suggestions once the State Government transmits a formal
correspondence in this respect to the Ministry. At present, air connection is
the greatest issue that affects the appearance of worldwide Buddhist guests in
Odisha,” Panda said.
In the last tourism season, Lalitgiri obtained 305
international guests and both Ratnagiri and Udaygiri got 381. The Minister
recommended plying of low price air passage like Indigo, Liven Jet and Jet
Airways to nations through Biju Patnaik International airport.
“Recently, the application of Fly Dubai to function worldwide
cheap flight tickets
from Bhubaneswar was refused because international possessed air travel
organizations stand to gain from such offers. Hence, low-cost air passage
possessed by Indian organizations should be roped in to function worldwide
flight tickets from Bhubaneswar like it is done in case of Sri Lanka, which
would be valuable for both the company and the Govt,” Raju said.
The Minster also recommended the Tourism Division to launch
helicopter services of Pawan Hans Ltd to link the state capital with vacationer
tour in other regions as it has been done in West Bengal.
